Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth (Prov 4:1,4-5)~ It’s sad to see our young men and women who have failed to heed the instructions of wisdom. Looking around… turning on every channel, it’s not hard to find someone who has turned from wisdom and understanding and rather took the easy path of foolishness and ignorance. For a time, they appear to have their reward: fast money, relaxation, friends, folly, and the pleasures of sin for a season.. sadly things people these days call.. blessed! But in time…that passes all too quickly, the rewards disappear and “payday” arrives. Not the kind of payday where you earn, but the one where you have to ‘pay the piper’ for all of your time you’ve spent living! Young years were fun but now you look up and you’re in your 40’s and saying ‘what now’? There’s a time in life where..as they say… “It” gets real! Those who have spent their lives ‘kickin it’ and not preparing for “payday” now find themselves in the middle of a desert without a map or guide!
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying life, but you’ve got to spend it wisely. You can spend all your youth playing and hope some wisdom gets to you and carries you for a long life…or you can balance the spending of your young life on with some wisdom for that fun and prepare for a better life! Wisdom and understanding are expensive commodities that pay handsome dividends. They do not come cheap! To master a subject means untold hours of grappling with hypotheses, digging into truths, and wrestling with realities. It’s the same whether it’s doctrines of the faith or principles of physics or anything in between, but that investment in your life is worth the cost! Wise and godly people, in every age of the world, and rank in society, agree that true wisdom consists of obedience to sound discipline, and is united to happiness. Get wisdom, sacrifice, take pains for it. Get rule over corruptions; take more pains to get this than the wealth of this world! For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:35-36). This wisdom is the one thing needful. A soul without true wisdom and grace is a dead soul. How poor, contemptible, and wretched are those, who, with all their wealth and power, die without getting understanding, without Christ, without hope, and without God! An interest in Christ’s salvation is necessary. Thus our path will be plain before us: by taking, and keeping fast hold of instruction, we shall avoid stumbling our way through the older years! Yes, you will get old… Hopefully! Take the steps to make sure you will have a rewarding old age! Invest in Wisdom in your youth and don’t depart from it!
Let us give heed to the sayings of Him who has the words of eternal life.
