We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; (2 Cor 4:8-9)~~ How can this be??? How can we possibly be stable in such unstable conditions? Well, we’ve got God on our side – and we are like a wise man that builds his house upon a rock (Matt 7:24). See, life sends all sorts of storms and challenges our way, whether it’s health, relationships, jobs or any other kinds of stress. Just because we are believers and followers of Christ doesn’t mean that we’re exempt from trials and tribulations. In fact, the Word reminds us that Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble (Job 14:1). Knowing this himself, the enemy is crafty in sending all sorts of trouble and stress and confusion our way and even making us believe that it’s some sort of task from God, but God is not the author of confusion, but of peace (1 Cor 14:33). Knowing this, the enemy gets us fearful of things going on around us and causes us to act on that fear, but God did not give us this spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind (2 Tim 1:7). The enemy also give us false feelings of power and self sufficiency that we can get through trials on our own, enacting our prideful ways, But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (2 Cor 4:7). The enemy with all of his tricks and lies seeks to keep us in confusion and and fear and darkness but we have salvation – For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.(2 Cor 4:6). Are you seeing the ‘light’ my friend? Are you seeing the One who provides all of these things? In the world ye SHALL have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have (Jesus has) overcome the world (John 16:33). And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phi 4:7) – yes, it is tough – you don’t know how to even FEEL sometimes and you might not be thinking clearly and probably don’t always know which way you’re going. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt 6:33). What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us (Rom 8:31).
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open (Isa 22:22)~ In life…All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Rom 8:28) because God’s will WILL be done regardless of what man says or does. We could even take a familiar context here to say “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mark 10:9); In marriage the bond which God has tied, is not to be lightly untied. We in OUR will allow things and people to come in front of our marriages… Family and friends and work and self-empowerment; we might even turn ourselves away from that marriage in our own selfishness, but the impact of that marriage stays with us for life, even if we re-marry. God intended it that way! In life, when God sets something in place, man cannot undermine or change His intent because God said His Word would not return to Him void but would accomplish what HE pleases and be great in it (Isa 55:11). So as long as God wills it and is intertwined in with you and whatever you endeavor, you will be bound to success in it because with Him in all things that threefold cord is not quickly broken (Ecc 4:12). When God is acknowledged and directing your paths (Prov 3:6) you may not always go the way YOU think you probably should, but you’re always going the right way; take a step back and make sure you’re on the path He directs and not off on a detour of your own. God provides us with what He does because He knows what we need and what we WILL need. He opens doors along the way for us to walk through – but in fear we stand and look rather than trust Him and walk on through. He takes away certain things and people because He knows that it’s weighing us down. God doesn’t allow our marriages and relationship with Him and our blessings to fail, WE allow things and do things that cause it to fail. God brings us out of things and closes the door behind us; and like the sabertooth on the closing credits of the Flintstones (for those of you old enough to remember good cartoons), we turn around and bang on that door trying to get back in…and many of us do find that window and jump RIGHT back into what God brought us out of. When Jesus appeared to His disciples after getting up from the dead, one of the last things He reminded them of was that All power is given to HIM in Heaven and Earth (Matt 28:18). What level, title or position could we possibly have to stand above that??? Everything that God has spoken and promised since there was a way to have record of it by our ability…has come to be just as He said it. Never has anyone or anything been able to change His direction – because He is the Lord and He changeth NOT (Mal 3:6). When God takes us in a new direction, we have to learn not to look back, Lot’s wife I’m sure would have one powerful warning if she could tell us about the dangers of looking back when God had told us to move on for our own good! When God moves you, just say “Thank You Lord”.. don’t complain, and move forward… Because believe me…better yet believe HIM, if He wills it, it WILL be!
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers ‘with thee. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth (Prov 5:15-18)~~ The only real promise of infidelity is that most of those marriages end in divorce. In the blink of an eye, the trust and security that was the foundation for a healthy marriage is destroyed. Sadly, it takes years of dedicated work to rebuild lost trust and security ripped away by an affair.. IF it even happens at all! The reason is simple. After an ice storm, have you ever attempted to walk down a frozen sidewalk? Although it’s possible, there’s always anxiety that a horrible fall might be right around the corner. What many couples fail to realize is that an absence of trust and security in a marriage is like condemning a person to live on that ice-covered sidewalk. Your mate is never truly free to relax because he or she is continually fighting to keep his or her footing. Lawful marriage is a means God has appointed to keep from these destructive vices. But we are not properly united, except as we attend to God’s word, seeking his direction and blessing, and acting with affection. If people put as much attention into their OWN marriage as they give to outside entities activities and people, imagine how low the divorce rate would be! Instead of looking at how green the grass APPEARS to be on the other side, try watering your own grass! It’s amazing how well a marriage flourishes when we nurture it!!! It’s been said how awesome it is to marry the one you love.. (Well, who else would you marry???)– but even more awesome it is…when you LOVE THE ONE YOU MARRIED! Look it’s just that simple! Marriage is that protected fenced in backyard! NO ONE should be allowed to walk in inside it other than the two of you that are part of it…and God Himself; not the kids, not mama or daddy or your siblings or your buddies or your girlfriends! FORSAKING ALL OTHERS means just that! This is your beautiful, blessed and sacred space – Your dream yard and the curb appeal you show the world should be a reflection of God’s purpose and blessing upon you! Water the grass and tend to it meticulously! When there are issues – deal with them IN THAT SPACE. When there is joy – celebrate IN THAT SPACE. When there is tribulation – grieve and rebuild IN THAT SPACE. Your marriage should be your place of solitude and your ultimate destination to get away from the world. Treat it right and your marriage will be something you’ll always look forward to coming home to!
It’s SO important it is that we learn to cast all our cares upon the Lord. But can the Lord handle all that . . . would He WANT to handle our little issues… with each of the Christians around the world casting their cares upon Him on the same day…at the same time…constantly and continuously? Can He take care of all those things? Is our issue even important to Him that He would consider us? How many calculations can He handle in His head at one time?
All questions that probably go through our mind every time we feel the desire or need to go to the Lord in prayer! But friend, those are all seeds of doubt that the enemy wants you asking because if he can get you to doubt just how much God cares for you, he knows you’ll just stop going to the Lord and try to figure out your own way and … BAM!
Understand this – There’s NO limit to what God can handle. There’s NOTHING you can’t ask of Him! EACH of us is important to Him. And as EACH of us cries out to Him, looking to Him in time of need and trouble, He is able to handle all of that . . . and INFINITELY more.
And THIS is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing “according to His will”, He heareth us: And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him (1 John 5:14-15). Do you like to just talk into the air? Or do you like to talk when you know someone is listening? God is listening when we pray. He wants to hear us pray, and He wants us to pray in the realm of His will. He wants us to pray about those things which are important to us: that we would bring our cares to Him and cast them at His feet, leaving them there and trusting in Him. He said that if we would do this, committing our way unto Him, then He would bring it to pass. He’s assuring us of an answer.
Things do trouble us. But we all have to learn how to take hold of the Word of God, letting it be used and made manifest in our lives, where we’re ever committing our way unto the Lord: every day, in every thing, committing our way to the Lord.
Do you get up in the morning and hurry off to work? Wouldn’t it be better to stop before you leave home and commit your way unto the Lord? There’s your answer! God’s Word would tell you this is the way. Try it; it will make the day change so completely! Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass (Ps 37:4-5)…
They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever (Ps 125:1)~ All those minds shall be truly stayed, that are stayed on God; He keeps them in His perfect peace (Isa 26:3)!! They shall be as firm as a mountain supported by providence, much more as a holy mountain supported by promise.. God’s promise…steadfast and unmoveable! They cannot be removed from confidence in God. They abide for ever in that grace which is the supporting foundation of their everlasting continuance in glory. Committing themselves to God, they shall be safe from their enemies (Ps 27:6). Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? (Rom 8:35) No not one!! Mountains may molder and come to nothing, and rocks may be removed, but God’s covenant with us cannot be broken, nor His care of us cease. Our troubles shall last no longer than our strength under Him will bear us up. The rod of the wicked may come and fall upon us, our persons, our estates, our liberties, our families’ names, on any thing that falls to our lot; but it cannot reach our souls (Job 1:12)!!! And though it may come upon us, it shall not rest upon us! The Lord will make all work together for our good (Rom 8:28)! For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 8:38-39). No matter what is out there, no matter what we see or hear or feel, no matter what comes – God is our foundation of stability in all things. Friend, sleep in Heavenly peace; knowing and trusting in Him!
