The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident (Ps 27:1-3)~ God is my revelation: He has shown me things I’ve never seen and thing I’ve already seen in ways I’ve never seen them; God is my salvation: He has brought me out of many situations – from death to life – from trial to triumph – from frustration to favor; God is my vindication: He makes the tactics of the enemy stumble and fall – without the need of action or retaliation from me – He declares His vengeance and guides me to simply abide in Him – trust in Him – worship Him; God is my preservation: He constantly keeps me when I should have fallen – He grants victory in the face of defeat – When one thing seems like it should be, God IS!; The Lord God is my stabilization: I will stand on the solid, steadfast, unmoveable foundation He provides. There is no instance that God cannot control, no pain He cannot soothe, no sorrow He cannot heal. One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple (Ps 27:4) ~ I will plain and simply and without question, trust, believe, love and take joy in Him!
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth (Col 3:2); But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness (1 Tim 6:11)~ It ill becomes any person, but especially a person of God, to set their hearts upon the things of this world; people of God should be taken up with the things of God. There must be a conflict with corruption, and temptations, and the powers of darkness. Eternal life is the crown proposed for our encouragement and we are called to lay hold on that. As Heaven and Earth are contrary one to the other, both cannot be followed together; and affection to the one will weaken and remove affection to the other… after all, no man can serve two masters; he will love one and despise the other. And take caution to yourselves, watching out that at any time your hearts be over burdened with wreckless living and drunkenness, worries and cares of this life, and so that day comes upon you suddenly. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man (Luke 21:34-36). Our danger is that the day of death and of judgment should come upon us when we are not prepared; that, when we are called to meet our Lord, that what will be the furthest from our thoughts, is that which ought to be nearest our hearts. This is unfortunately how it will come upon the most of men, who dwell upon the earth, and mind earthly things, and have no focus with heaven. There is so much going on around us right now and everywhere, people are constantly consumed with emotion and distracted by the happenings in the world. All of these things going on are distractions to take your mind off of the peace of God. Remember, the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. Remember, He will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stayed on Him! Don’t lose your focus on the Lord because He is the source of all peace and life and joy! Focus on Faith to the Finish!
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil (Prov 4:25-27)~ Like a boat without propulsion, a lack of focus can cause us to drift. Our relationship with God, our marriages, our lives with our families, our careers. All of these areas that are typically the most important to us, but we, in our complacency just let things go on automatic while we focus on other things. There may not be obvious conflict or struggles, just subtle distractions that lull us ‘asleep’. We hardly notice we’re losing our “standing and foundation” until we end up somewhere we never intended to be. We must be intentional about the path these areas in our lives take. We must keep our hearts, minds and spirits focused on the Lord and His intent for us. Our relationships with God and our marriages and families and careers and each other; are areas where the enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy. Those little distractions become major issues if left unattended! Keep your heart with all diligence. Set a strict guard upon your soul your relationships and your values; keep your heart from doing hurt, and getting hurt. Relationships in all aspects.. how we interact with God and each other are key to achieving our destiny and should never just be left to ‘drift’ on their own as if ‘autopilot’ will get it done. These areas take work, diligence, commitment, perseverance, patience and dedication. Small course corrections can change your marriage, enhance relationships and strengthen resolve. But it requires focus! Above all, we should seek from the Lord Jesus; that living water, the sanctifying Spirit, issuing forth unto everlasting life. In Him, we shall be enabled to put away those fiery darts of the enemy; our eyes will be turned from beholding distractions, focused, dedicated, diligent and committed; and walking by the rule of God’s word, treading in the steps of Christ!
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands (Neh 6:9)~ There is a constant plot by the enemy to keep you from getting to the blessing God has for you. One thing that CAN’T be changed is that God HAS a blessing for you. Knowing that, the plot of the enemy is distractions to you that keep you from the movement toward the blessing. You know what you SHOULD be doing but something distracting always comes along…and while you’re now looking the other way; following the distraction; procrastinating; letting it wait for whatever (excuse) have you… the thing that shouldn’t happen somehow interjects itself into being. We have to be careful about what we allow to sidetrack us. Vigilance is vital! We must never give in, no matter how fitting it may seem, to do anything sinful or imprudent; but when attacked with the temptation, resist it with reason and resolution. People, situations, even our own mindset and consciousness can be great distractors against what we are supposed to be giving priority to. It is common for that which is desired only by the malicious, to be falsely represented by them as desired by the many. Others may mean well and simply but selfishly want our time. Finally still, our own desire to do something else that might be more entertaining, possibly less stressful or less tedious; could be tempting us away. But we must never omit any known duty for fear it should be misconstrued; but, while we keep a good conscience, let us trust God with our good name and pray His for strength to keep our focus. And to the distracting factions: just say No!
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12)~~ We all love statements of affirmation, encouragement, empowerment and self improvement. We will take to heart statements from scholars and create monuments of wisdom based on the statements of the most controversial of men; even if it means we shun the Truth of God, especially if that Truth convicts or exposes something within us. But all the nice, warm fuzzy, feel good cliche quoting does nothing but trap us in a euphoria of false security and enslaves us to the ways of the world. But in the Word, that two-edged sword cuts away all of the unprofitable that is on us… Rightfully dividing Word and fables, we shall know the TRUTH and be set free. And Jesus answered and said to them:“ Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many (Matt 24:4-5); Jesus meant for us to beware of the many churches and religious leaders claiming to represent Christ (calling themselves “Christian”) leading people with ‘feel good’ and ‘prosperity’ doctrine, but not teaching the Bible accurately. Some are insincere and have wrong motives. Others are sincere but they are sincerely wrong! Some will even “show great [miraculous] signs and wonders to deceive” (Matthew 24:24). It will be extremely easy to be misled and confused if we aren’t continually turning to the Bible to see what is true and what is false. Study to shew thyself approved! There are many who would have you believe differently, turning the truth of God into a lie, justifying worldly and even worse, their own ways; even unbelief with “human” rationalization and speaking to those with itching ears, that would rather hear man’s doctrine of do what makes you happy and what feels good and what YOU want; over that of God’s truth which carries a greater promise but also comes with a foundation of responsibility; standards and a stern truth that opposes the mindset of worldly doctrine! God’s Word tells us that in our days, we will have plenty of trials and tribulations (Job 14:1) but IN HIM is where our victory lies because He has won it already (John 16:33). To deny, hide, ignore or suppress the Truth of God; smoothing over the rough stuff, the responsibilities and the rules so that we ‘feel good’, have what we want and are happy all the time; is a very dangerous thing! God’s Word is sharp and designed to cut away that which is wrong in us but keep that which builds us stronger in HIm. That doesn’t mean it will always make us happy and give us pleasure, riches and worldly prosperity. But if it means I’m right in Him, then cut me to the bone! Friend, Don’t be misled because you don’t want to hear the truth! Not reading the book of Revelation won’t keep the end from coming! Know the truth, be set free ETERNALLY and Be Ye Also Ready!
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isa 40:31)~ so many of us are looking for that blessing, that breakthrough, that change. And while we look and believe, we sit! Yes, all things are possible to him who believes and has faith; but as we believe, we can’t just sit there the way we are and think things will just suddenly… change. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:20) Keep in mind, those who had faith when Jesus walked all had an action corresponding to it. The woman with the issue of blood didn’t just wait for Jesus to come touch her for her healing, she had to (DO SOMETHING) make her way through resistance that was keeping her from Him (the crowd) and the effort of action in her faith made her whole; the impotent man at the pool had a healing from Jesus, sure he did, but he had to rise up, take up his bed and walk in the faith that Jesus made Him whole. Friend, we all have healing and blessings in The Lord but our faith is just a belief until we take a step in it. Martin Luther King Jr is famous for saying that Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. We know the top of the staircase is there but we’ll never get there standing at the bottom watching it in awe of its height or greatness! Isaiah says they that wait on The Lord renew their strength… that strength is to be USED to MOUNT UP with the wings of Eagles; to RUN the race set before us and to WALK in the paths of His righteousness, that we will NOT FAINT in adversity, but PROSPER and PERSEVERE! Christ has healed our spiritual diseases, let us GO wherever he sends us, and TAKE UP whatever he lays upon us. So often we look for our blessings but we sit in that ‘unblessed’ situation and continue to sit in our stuff (some of us call it waiting in faith); when all we had to do was move in the blessing we believed God for and we would see the difference. See, God doesn’t always take the situation away from you and He sometimes won’t take you out of the situation. Many times the blessing is in the actual enduring and the process of going through. We may not always be clear on which way we have to move but one thing we can be certain of is that we HAVE TO MOVE! The proof of our spiritual cure is not just our belief, but our RISING and WALKING; in faith; in Him!
