For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable (Rom 11:29)~ We already know that God’s forgiveness; His extension of grace is a gift. And looking up ‘irrevocable’ we find the meaning: “not able to be changed, reversed, or recovered; final.” So thinking about God’s love, grace, mercy and forgiveness – His greatest gifts to us as not able to be changed, reversed or recovered; and final; what a joy it is to be a recipient of these gifts! Yet how many of us just can’t seem to fathom being loved at such an infinite level! True, no person can love this deeply – but we are talking about God here. Friend, we need to be sure to never discount God’s forgiveness of us! When God forgives you, if you don’t force yourself to believe and then reinforce the behavior that accords with the fact that God’s forgiveness is full and free, you will constantly be taunted by the sneaky whispers of Satan. “Well now, ‘Christian’… You might as well just count your blessings and forget about being used by God anymore! He doesn’t use screw-ups! He’s done with you! Just go be a decent person, and forget about those foolish dreams you had of thinking you could be of some great use to God!” But yes, the devil is a lie! Sometimes it takes failing royally to realize that God’s love is so incredibly real. You are of INESTIMABLE value to the Lord; God’s love for you is INFINITE. It is a love that caused Him to sacrifice His only begotten Son for you. His love, His grace, His mercy, His forgiveness are all absolutely 100% irrevocably full and free! It must be that way because there is NOTHING you can do to pay for that salvation! If you could pay something, even the slightest portion of it, then Christ’s death would be purposeless! Besides, even if 99.999% of your failures were taken off of your account it would still leave enough for you to spend eternity in hell. So friend, understand and believe: You have the victory! Do not let any placing of the devil make you discount by any portion the complete forgiveness of God that is yours ‘completely’ today and forever! That’s right, forever.. God doesn’t go back on His promise… even if we go back on ours! He is not a man that He should lie; nor the son of man, that He should turn back from the direction in which He set out. He said He would do these things – Trust Him, He’ll make good on it! And if you don’t believe me, then ask Peter–you know, the guy Jesus spoke to named Simon? You know, the man who denied Christ three times, and then through God’s forgiveness and restoration, became the Rock on which He built His church (Matt 16:18)?
